History :

A youth warped by the unnatural magics of undeath and the sight of dying at every turn, Mathell's features cast a hollowed, almost indifferent caste to any expression he makes.
One of the more unusual stories in Sundren, Mathell was known for his heroic actions as a Doomguide of Kelemvor, and later for his rallying of the Myrkulite cultists through out the valley.
His cheeks are tightly wound inward and his eyes carry heavy bags of fatigue beneath them.

Though some may remember the former Doomguide as a relatively wholesome figure, Mathell has been prejudiced in casting aside any holdings to physical allure or warmth. Perhaps in efforts to make himself more akin to the great death he serves, he has simply grown to neglect the needs of his body. His muscular exterior slowly subsides into a famished, unclean display. His nails have been allowed to grow out oddlong, dirtied with the grime of his necromantic works and study. The same is true of all but the most basic of hygiene. Both his hair and beard have become a ragged mop, allowed an untidy growth.
In his time as a Kelemvorite in the valley, he was best known for his now near legendary duel with the vampire Clive Tarsus, in which he handily defeated him calling on the undead slaying powers of his deity, with the Hands of Mundus as his audience.
To a lesser extent, his work with the Triumvirate and Tormite Paladins was one well noted by all those knowledgeable in the order's affairs. Specifically his armoring of three man Paladin teams with enchanted silver swords and the slaying of the infamous Syran the Heretic's blood daughter, Kara.

More recently, and as such, more commonly connected to his person has been the attempted murder of the Sestra militia Captain, Cirion Reliun; a particularly vicious border fort raid and most importantly, his rallying of the Myrkulite forces through out the valley.

Background:

Once of the most devout order of Knights in service to Kelemvor, the current God of Death, Mathell served in Sundren as such for quite some time.
Months after his sudden shift from Kelemvor to Myrkul, Mathell turned himself over to authorities not far from the Sunderer Gate, renouncing the Lord of Bones to all present and defeating his own necromantic escorts just after.
He was reputably well known and, by most cases, well liked.
The Ilmatari Paladin, Secalia Amiolasi, has been made as the undeniable catalyst for his second shift in faith, though the actual details concerning their connection and Mathell's choice to leave Myrkul are scarce.

A special kinship with the Triadic Knights, and the Tormite Paladins in specific earned him an honorary place in the Arbiter's Alliance.
To this day, it remains a mystery what caused the now faithless priest to abandon either Kelemvor or Myrkul, nor why he so readily chose to accept the heavy verdict of a life spent in prison, where he continues to reside today.
He remains the only Kelemvorite in Sundren history to have ever held such a position.

Over the little more than a year he stayed in Sundren, Mathell became known as a beacon and headstrong representative of Kelemvor's interests, especially those in regards to the destruction of unlawful undead.
His zealous nature and forward drive earned him the gradual respect of even the Hands of Mundus, which called upon the Doomguide's service on the odd occasion to privately deal with wayward members of their order.

What caused his eventual breaking from the Kelemvorite church remains a matter of debate, and to many Tormites and Triadic Knights a bitter memory indeed.
What is known beyond a doubt now, is that Mathell holds the Lord of Bones, Kelemvor's predecessor in office, as his one sovereign god.

The war between the Kelemvorite church in Sundren and the Myrkulite forces has only escalated since this abrupt turn.

Character Personality:

There lives still the many odd adventurer and Knight that recalls when Mathell first arrived in the Sundren valley, and made himself known to all as Kelemvor's most faithful. The warping of his mindset and personality have never been fully explained, though those closest to him have always suspected the constant skirmishes against the Children of Colibrus and the Dark Advent weighed too heavily on the Doomguide's mind.

What he is now, for certain, is twisted. A bitter distaste for life and a secret longing for death make Mathell an intelligent, experienced and powerful madman. His devotion to Myrkul is inexplicable in it's sudden depth, replacing the entirety of his ambition and drive to serve Kelemvor. Those that have had the chance of speaking to him since his turning can detail a collected, well-spoken but entirely irrational young man. Whatever damage he received to his spirit and mind alike, it is unlikely it will ever heal in the service of his new god.

Significant Relationships:

Formerly a close friend of several Triadic heroes, Templars of Helm and even the odd Hand of Mundus, Mathell forced himself into the inevitable conflict with each of them when siding with the Lord of Bones.
Ironically, once his greatest nemesis and rival, Clive Tarsus has become a frequent comrade due to their forced services with one another on the field.

More recently, and as such, more commonly connected to his person has been the attempted murder of the Sestra militia Captain, Cirion Reliun; a particularly vicious border fort raid and most importantly, his rallying of the Myrkulite forces through out the valley.

Months after his sudden shift from Kelemvor to Myrkul, Mathell turned himself over to authorities not far from the Sunderer Gate, renouncing the Lord of Bones to all present and defeating his own necromantic escorts just after.
