History: Born to Balaurant the mage and Sara the commoner. Samuel is the second son of a second wife. Samuel's Father was first married to Vedessa a Priestess of Leira. She born him three daughters: Dilia, Beseda and Ginela. Though Nimbral tradition dictates families take no surnames, Balaurant wanted a son. Balaurant consulted the Planes and found who would conceive sons for him. During the annual game of deception (forced upon the populace by the Leiraites), Balaurant married Sara. It gained him no favor with the Leiraites but my Father was never one to bow to rules. Sara bore him two son's, my brother Zeltar and me.
My Father was confined to the Sculpture and life continued as it was. I grew and was trained in the Arts. This decision would decide my fate, imprisonment as my Father and all mages of Nimbral face. To me it was no bother, my Father entertained me and my brother with the history of the world, of our past, how we came from Halruaa, arcane lore, you name it. He even secretly scryed all over the world. My brother and I saw so much, though we had so little space. It was amazing. This continued, until 1358 when the Time of Troubles came. The Priesthood of Leira controlled everyone with their magics, then lost it all. The Mages, so long confined, took their birthright. I do not know if it was all the confusion or some sympathy from my Father but my Stepmother fled and took two of my half sisters. Now everything changed, the Nimbral Lords were formed and the Knights of the Hunt were given their glass armor and steads to protect us. Were deception and control reigned, now freedom and enlightenment prospered.
It was amazing to see the rest of the island. I had such a wander lust! When my brother was eighteen he was given an assignment. My Father placed him in the Anuroc. I was jealous, the ancient homeland!!! I planned an escape to go join my brother. You would think it is wonderful having such a Father, so powerful and seemingly all knowing... He saw through my plans of escape. I was so arrogant and young, I knew what was right. I had none of the temperance my Father developed during his captivity. He could not see fit to contain me, he just gave me this one warning: expect no help.
I traveled to the Dalelands. I joined up with several adventures and we forged our way across the land. I finally met my end near Daggerdale, so close to the desert I long to see. My arrogance and quick temper, proved my downfall. The party began mistrusting each other and I opened a door for an assassin to join us. He killed me first, then later killed my entire party. That was in 1368 the Year of the Banner. Would have been better named: Year of the Great Humbling.
I awoke in my Mothers Arms. Several years had past. My Father found me and brought me back. My Father studied me and said I was ready to begin. I did not understand what he meant. I was allowed time to stay and recover but there was this sense of urgency. My Father found me one day and asked: would I go on an errand for him? I was to go into the Frozen North and subtly establish myself. No assistance from him and no contact till he deemed it necessary.
I ponder for a while. This is how my brother was sent out. My Father is an Archmagi, nothing is simple with him. Plans within plans and none of those plans revealed for little me! I wonder how Zeltar was doing. I asked my Father and he did not comment. I pondered if this assignment was linked to him. Time will tell. Patience and humility is my new creed. I said goodbye to my Sister Dilia and my Mother. Now I look forward to a long boat ride to Baldur's Gate then further north.
