Alcazar Tel'Rune

Birthplace: Thaymount, Thay

Age: Unknown

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Deity: Jergal

Class: Red Wizard

Background: Little is known personally about Alcazar, he is a mage of some power and known to be the Master of Necromancy at the Thayan Enclave.

Alcazar is rumored to have been a former apprentice of Szass Tam, Zulkir of Necromancy in Thay. He has also been implicated in numerous high level decisions in the Enclave and Thayan politics overall.

In more recent times it was Alcazar who had become authorized by the Exigo to take over the Trading Post during an incursion from the Bloodmaim... with Thayan Knights Murith and Lauan under his command, along with a squad of Thayan Knights and Gnolls he was able to assume full control over the post and completely and utterly destroy any advancing forces.

It is reputed that Alcazar lead at least one attack on a neighbouring land to Thay, and while not publically successful, the details of the attack are scarce at best.

Known Rumors: It has been suggested by many who denounce Thayan culture and politics that Alcazar heads up a division of the Enclave that pursues experimentation for the sake of increasing the Thayan foothold within the realms. Alcazar's retort claims that the Church has just as much to gain from fear in the hearts of man as the Thayans would, and utterly denies these claims.

Assassination Attempts: To date there has been a total of three assassination attempts on Alcazar's life, the first an attempt by his peers to steal his research for their own benefit... While the exact nature of the first assassination is unknown, it is known that the enemy Wizard who dispatched the assassin disappeared suddenly, and was never seen or heard from again in Thay.

The second and third attempts were both by the same Mage Killer whose vendetta against Alcazar began shortly after his predecessor's demise at the hands of Alcazar. Sephalas Ahkvala had impersonated an adventurer seeking to buy Thayan goods when approaching Alcazar and attempted to use a powerful poison via a dart.

As he advanced to his target he came upon the cold realization that the Knight guarding him would not give him a clear shot to his target, ebbing ever closer he slowly uncovered the dart from his sleeve, ready to strike... Seeing his chance, the Mage Killer struck, the dart landing deftly on Alcazar's neck. Sephalas ran, disappearing into the crowd. Satisfied Alcazar would not live through the night.

Some years later while Sephalas was travelling in Cormyr he came upon an inn near a well travelled road leading to the city. While staying at the inn, Sephalas noticed a small entourage of two Thayan Knights both guarding an innocus inn door. Upon further questioning with the innkeeper Sephalas came to learn that Alcazar himself was staying in the very same inn! Awestruck, and enraged... Sephalas swore he would not fail twice and went to his room grabbing his sword, and a vial of alchemist's fire from his pack.

Approaching the hallway carefully, Sephalas knew the two knights would prove far too great a challenge for him at once, and in so doing he threw the alchemist's fire at them. Temporarily blinded, and writhing in agony, the two Knights attempted to turn their attention to Sephalas, who came charging at the door, shredding the wood to pieces with his sword as he rushed past the two knights.

Upon entering the room, much to Sephalas' dismay... he did not see Alcazar, or anyone else for that matter. Where had he gone? Why were the guards there? He knew he had only moments before the knights regained their composure, and in turning to the window to escape, he suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. From thin air itself Alcazar materialized into the room-- having been on the ethereal plane since hearing the noise, he then turned his attention to Sephalas. Seeing his target, Sephalas quickly turned and lunged at Alcazar, his blade stopping mid blow as an invisible force surrounding the Red Wizard denied his kill.

Using his magical skill to break the barrier, Sephalas quickly recited an incantation which shattered Alcazar's shield, and in doing so he deftly parried and came down upon Alcazar with a furious blow, only to meet hard stone. Alcazar's skin had completely hardened from his stoneskin spell, and before Sephalas could make another move, Alcazar grabbed him by the neck and began draining his lifeforce with vampiric touch. The Knights in the hallway regaining composure, they quickly entered the room to watch as their master turned a fair elven male into a dried husk before their eyes. Sephalas, for all his might and skill was unable to counter the deadly hold the Necromancer held on him, and in his last few fading moments dropped his sword to the ground, defeated.

It is said that Sephalas acted alone, without the consent of the Mage Killers as a whole -- however this is not to say his death did not send ripples among his peers. Many of which would very much like to see Alcazar dead -- but having been not the first Mage Killer to make an attempt on Alcazar's life, many are weary about putting their skills to the test against such a foe.
