Not much is known about Jos'iah's origin for he himself does not know.  The elvish city of Haldamar, or "The Hidden Home", is tucked away by secrecy and magic.  For countless generations, the sun elves of Haldamar have isolated themselves from the outside world.  Many surmise it was because of a great plague or encroaching evil.  Many more believe that the other races are just too impure and lowly to mingle with their kind.  Those that succumb to wanderlust and leave the city's gates are forever banished.  The location of their home erased from their mind's eye.

Summary:
Jos'iah's hails from the elvish city of Haldamar, or "The Hidden Home". No one really knows where it lies for it is tucked away by secrecy and magic.

Like most of his peers, Jos'iah spends many of his years studying a multitude of disciplines such as archery, swordsmanship, lore, art, music, and magic. (When you live as long as elves do, you become skilled at many things.) He even mastered the hidden elven art of Lusselinde ("whisper singing"), the ability to sing without the movement of lips or while simultaneously performing other vocal tasks such as talking. This produces a constant faint song easily missed in busy streets but produces a calming and soothing melody easily heard during a forest walk.

Jos'iah was more adept and eager at learning than his contemporaries however and was chosen to study under the great Master-Teacher Lenwë. Lenwë is known for his mastery of arcane illusions and Jos'iah followed in his footsteps. (Lenwë's illusions are such that even his spells of evocation are actually illusions of such realism that they affect others in the same way.) Being as resourceful as he is, Jos'iah began to incorporate the mundane application of hand sleights and misdirection to complement his magic. He has even begun to delve into the manipulation of the shadows to further augment his art.

Jos'iah finds himself fortunate to be the pupil of such a kind, wise, and accomplished Master but he has been stricken by a new curiosity. He has just begun his study on the races and has found himself curious about them. Numerous tomes and scrolls about the hardy dwarves, industrious humans, and blood-thirsty orcs have piqued his interest. At some point, he realized that tomes can only reveal so much. He wanted to experience the outside world for himself. Unwilling to be banished, he "borrowed" his master's teleportation stone and found himself in Sundren.

He has found it to be a place of wonder and filled with the many things he has read about. His newfound experiences reveal so much more than the scrolls and tomes ever could. He has even found himself on adventures with halflings, humans, and half-orcs! And then he realized, he has been struck by wanderlust!

Still unwilling to be banished but even more unwilling for Sundren to fade into memory, Jos'iah frequently "borrows" his Master's teleportation stone. In order not to be found out, he devised a clever combination of mundane trickery and arcane cantrips to alert him whenever his Master comes calling while he is away. When he does, Jos'iah apologizes to those he is with and teleports himself back home before his Master finds out. And Lenwë is none the wiser of his star pupil's exploits... or is he?
