For many adventurers in Sundren, James would certainly be an enigma. He is very much a loner. This a product of his upbringing as a Warden protecting the lands of the lord, in whose fief he was born, from goblins, firbolgs (Moonshaevian giants) and occaisional bandits. Unlike many adventurers, James has no great driving purpose or goals in life. It could be said that James is simply an explorer of sorts out to see something new. This is how he ended up in Sundren.
