Marcus was raised into the faith of Myrkul, his guardians claim that he was born from the corpse of a dead ritual sacrifice and that he should consider it a blessing from the Reaper.
Raised by two faithful cultists of Myrkul, Marcus has always been around death, their temple was located deep within an ancient tomb and sacrifices were common. At the age of sixteen Marcus was giving his first true task, a sort of coming-of-age ritual where he was to go out and bring back a sacrificial offering. His target was a farmer by the name of Jackoby. Marcus's plan was simple, abduct Jackoby from his barn and bring him back to the tomb on horseback.
But when Marcus got to the barn there were two Kelemvorites waiting for him, both bearing swords but no armor, someone had sold him out. Marcus knew he wasn't getting away alive so his only option was to fight, rather than reach for the closest weapon, a pitchfork, he ran for the farmer's scythe, a tool he knew how to use. The Kelemvorites charged him weapons drawn. Marcus, in a state of flight-or-fight, gripped the scythe tightly and made a large swing with the razor-sharp blade. The scythe went clear through the Kelemvorites unarmored necks, two at once. After the adrenalin wore off and Marcus realized what he had done a psychotic grin came across his face as he turned to Jackoby.
When he brought Jackoby back to the tomb, the other cultists were in awe, not only did he complete his task but he also had slayed two of their mortal enemies. But Marcus didn't care for the praises, he had his own objective, kill the bastard that sold him out. There were only four people that knew who he was going after, his parents and two other cultists, tow of his close friends. Late that night while everyone was asleep, Marcus broke into both his "parent's" and friend's chambers and murdered all four of them in cold blood, in his mind one of them sold him out and the guilty one would be judged by Myrkul for the treason.
The next day rumors spread through the cult about the Black Hand in Sundren making a large amount of progress on the resurrection of Myrkul. Marcus decided he would take a trip to Sundren and join the Black Hand there, for if he stayed one of the cultists would surely try and avenge the deaths of the four cultists he murdered. He left on his trip but rather then head straight to Sundren he took his time, he finally reached Sundren four years later.
