Background: Spardo's Mother Darla and Father Jack left the Dale land's and wondered a bit. The traveled to the Great Rift and further south to the legendary land of Halruaa. There the stayed a while as Darla had Spardo in tow. She gave birth and the decided to stay a spell there in the great mage city.

Jack was soon approached by a Wizard named Jarlo, that asked for Spardo to be his apprentice. Rather odd request as Spardo was just three. The Mage offered to pay for all expenses and give him an education. They agreed to let things develop for a few seasons. Spardo was trained and proved to have the mind for magic. This was no surprise to Jarlo, he must have read the stars or some such.
