History:
"The wind swept across the moonlit plain, the Gnome stood stock still, clutching his staff. He was waiting. Then he saw it. The red eyes unmistakably shining through the shadows, keen and hungry. The demon was here and the fate of Gnomekind rested upon one young Gnomes actions."

The Book of Gnome Legends was tossed to the floor. A young Peppington pushed his constantly slipping glasses back up his nose, wrinkled in distaste.

"What rot!" He exclaimed as he reached for another book entitled Introduction to the Art of Illusion.

Peppington was born in Lantan to a family of well respected inventers. Expected to follow the family tradition, Peppington set about making some ingenious devices that only added to the family's standing in the community.

However, his heart was never in the inventing business and he soon developed an interest in the Arcane Arts, much to the dismay of his family. Lantanians are inventers by nature and having a wizard in the family can bring huge disappointment.

After repeated familial attempts to get Peppington to change is mind away from the Arcane, he decided, with heavy heart, he could no longer stay and moved to the island of Orlil, where are small community of Lantanian wizards followed the Art.

It was here that he met his mentor "Glingnus Longsleeves", an aging Gnomeish wizard who had travelled the known world and amassed a vast array of knowledge. Recognising his potential, Longsleeves took Peppington under his wing and tutored him in the Arcane. Peppington spent many happy years on the Isle of Orlil until Longsleeves announced that he was to go travelling again. Distraught, Peppington begged him to stay, but he was resolute that travelling was the best way to broaden a wizard's mind. Determined to follow his master's example, he resolved to travel the world himself and boarded the first boat he could find to Faerun.

Character:
Peppington is a scholar, pure and simple. Nothing is more important to him than the acquisition of new arcane knowledge. He is not interesting in the pursuit of gold, power or influence, unless it is places him in a better position to access knowledge. He appears to be a bumbling academic who is all brains and no common sense, but is generally kind and considerate to others, unless they stand in his way of learning a new spell or uncovering a magical secret.

Significant Relationships:

• Chester the cat (familiar): Currently his only true friend. As Peppington powers were developing under the tutorlidge of Glingus Longsleeves, Chester just appeared one morning at the foot of his bed. Chester immediately looked at little disappointed and politely enquired if there was any cheese available as he was hungry. The disappointment and cheese has been a feature of their relationship ever since. However, Chester is always there to help Peppington and often solves many problems for him (without his knowledge).
