Summary:
Rycekk is a stout, blonde dwarf with awkward social skills - yet he makes an effort to smile at others. He was raised as a slave in the salt mines of the great Anauroch desert, toiling under a heavy handed Zhentarim mage. Like others in the mine, he felt being in the earth was his only opportunity to be at ease, and he developed a deep faith in Grumbar along with his fellow slaves. In his last years in the mines, Rycekk studied stolen holy texts with a captured cleric, learning the foundations of divine spell casting he would pursue throughout his life. His master at the mines discovered his studying, and Rycekk's ankle was broken as a punishment, which explains his slight limp.

Rycekk's time as a slave defines the basis for his personality and beliefs, but his escape during a Bedine raid (with a halfling by the name of Imari) was the defining moment of his life. After escaping he traveled with the Bedine, learning the true meaning of freedom in one of the harshest environments of Faerun. Rycekk is weary of others' intentions, and growing up in lands frought with evil has led him to believe that there is no one who is truly good. He is willing to work with others, however, and he believes that the highest calling is protecting one's community.

• Imari Sunstep: Rycekk's closest friend and fellow escapee from slavery, Imari has facilitated Rycekk's rough adjustment to living a free life. Imari's arrival at the salt mines inspired Rycekk to escape, but after traveling with the Bedine in the Anauroch, Imari was captured by a rival Bedine tribe and was forever seperated from Rycekk.
