Summary:

Jamyse Telmander took a swallow of ale full into his tale, looking around the table at his companions for the night. The music was loud if not exactly in tune, and laughter was the rule for this evening

"Where I'm from, ye say? " he grinned " Little farm about six hours north along the road from Waterdeep. Me ol' pop said I was a lazy lout, and who's to say he wrong? I certainly didn't enjoy "honest" work like bein' kicked by the mules, or shoveling dung aye? Anyway eldest of six boys, and when I turned thirteen he turned me out to make my way in the world, made my way down to the City of Splendors as it's called." He stopped to make sure his companions were listening

"Anyway, I wandered the city a bit, and finally, mostly from lack of coin in my purse, looked for work. I somehow managed to find myself in the recruiting district for the Free Companies, and also somehow, found myself employed by Evrom Slattery. That's right I was one of "Slattery's Volunteers" " He pauses as if everyone would know of this legendary (to him) company of mercenaries.

"Aye, I had found a home of sorts, people looked out for me and we fought and joked and mourned out losses, which were not to bad as Slattery was good at keeping us both paid and alive. Then about a year back Slattery announces he's retiring, by that time he was closer to seventy than sixty and I'd been serving with him for more than 10 years. The company was disbanding." He looks sad a moment then lightens swallowing another mouthful of ale

"In any case all of us who were once Slattery's Volunteers we threw him a grand retirement party, and then went our ways. I came here on a rumor of trouble in the land. I says to myself "Jamyse, Sundren is just the place to start out on a career by yourself, and who knows mayhap you'll start your own Free blade Company here" He nodded to himself

"And that lads is where I'm from and how I got here" He smiles and orders another round of ale
